This aircraft was built in 5 monthsby Deepak Mahajan, Matt Shelton and Rob Kepplespore, in 2005, from a kit designed by Philipp Steinbach in Germany. Click here togo to the manufacturers website. The contstruction is all carbon fibre which makes it very light and strong. It is powered by a 4 cylinder, 80 horsepower Jabiru 4 stroke engine which is manufactured in Australia. The two bladed wooden propeller is designed for optimum performance for this engine and airframe configuration. This is made by the Tonino Brothers in Italy.
Impulse 100 UL
The Impulse is very light due to its monocoque construction using Nomex honeycombe sandwiched between layers of carbon fibre, glued together by epoxy resins. The empty weight is under 270 kg.
The low drag profile and the wing sections give it the advantage over most otherr designs in the light weight category and with its 80 hp engine, it can cruise quite economically at more than 110 knots.
As with all modern aircraft, it has a complete EFIS system for engine and flight monitoring. It helps keep the weight of the aircraft low and gives all the information the pilot may need in flight and on the ground after the flight, with it's unique flight data record facility.
As it has a maximum range of 1000 nautical miles, some days are long winded and I have landed just after sunset, when the strobe lights fitted come in quite handy for other aircraft to spot you.
